National Setting

This video captures the highlights of my first General Synod.

This is the video of me leading people through the grief ritual that I was commissioned to create for General Synod 33.

As a result of my participation in The National MID Gathering of 2020, I was asked to help co-plan the National MID Gathering of 2021 which was held from October 14-16. I came up with theme of “Waiting in Hope” which was based on Psalm 33:20-22 :

20 We wait in hope for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
21 In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.
22 May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,
even as we put our hope in you.

I used this passage during the time of communal devotion, as a breath prayer.

This is me preparing to preach during the closing worship service of The National MID Gathering on 6-18-2020. The title of my sermon was “And if I Perish, I Perish” which was based on Esther 4:16 NRSV:

“Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. I and my maids will also fast as you do. After that I will go to the king, though it is against the law; and if I perish, I perish.”

Here’s an excerpt:

"You might be wondering, “What does what happened back then have to do with me or us now?” The answer: Everything!

We have a lot in common with Esther. Many of us have arrived where we are due to being forced to relocate for myriad reasons. Many of us at times had to be nurtured and raised by our extended family because circumstances dictated that our original parents couldn’t. I would even venture so far as to say that some of us found our way to the United Church of Christ to be nurtured in faith and ministry because our original spiritual/ religious traditions, would not or could not accept our myriad identities.”

Florida Conference

The work here showcases and highlights moments that I captured and preserved at one of the annual Gatherings of The Florida Conference as well as work I did for Faith Dunedin while there in supervised ministry

This video was created to commemorate Faith Dunedin’s coming into existence.

The video was created to commemorate when Faith Dunedin hosted the Shower of Stoles Project

Local

The work showcased here highlights, ministry that I did for and with my home church, First United Church of Tampa, UCC

This is a promo clip that I made to generate interest in our church via our church website.

Advertisement that I designed to generate interest in First United’s Lenten Retreat which I also helped plan.

This video highlights First United’s time of fellowship at Cedarkirk Retreat Center.

I had the honor of assisting Rev. Laura Callender and my pastor, Rev. Bernice Powell Jackson, with planning First United’s Lenten Retreat.

Knowing and appreciating UCC history, polity, and theology.

Articulates the diverse histories that comprise the UCC both in it’s formation and ongoing development.

My pastor is the Rev. Dr. Bernice Powell Jackson. Her spiritual mentor and prayer partner is the Rev. Dr. Yvonne Delk who is the first African American woman to be ordained in the UCC. Dr. Delk is from the Afro-Christian tradition of the UCC, Pastor Bernice is from the Congregationalist tradition of the UCC. Together, they created a conference known as the African American Women In Ministry (AAWIM) conference. This conference exists to ensure African American clergywomen will have a support system throughout the denomination. When I began to discern a call to ministry and started taking steps to become a MID, I received an invite to attend the AAWIM gathering. I accepted the invitation and, off I went to the gathering at The Franklinton Center at Bricks, NC. I participated in Afro-Christian-style worship on that land. We shared communion on the site of the whipping post where a Weeping Willow tree now stands. I kneeled on that sacred ground and prayed, feeling, and knowing that the ancestors were present. That gathering and what I experienced amongst that holy throng of Black womanhood, will always be a defining moment. I know that I am where I am supposed to be, and I know I will carry this legacy forward because I got next.

This video was made to capture the growth and highlights of AAWIM since its inception.

At GS 15, the following was affirmed and pronounced: “Affirms the United Church of Christ to be a Just Peace Church and defines Just Peace as the interrelation of friendship, justice, and common security from violence. Places the United Church of Christ General Synod in opposition to the institution of war.”

One of many reasons that I am proud to be a member First United Church of Tampa, UCC is because It is a “Just Peace” Church and is listed as such in the UCC registry.
